B. Sustainable Cities project – Gurgaon and Puri
This project was supported by the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN). As a part of the project, Vasudha Foundation and German Watch had organized workshops in Gurgaon and Puri, in collaboration with Water Energy Food Transitions (WEFT) Research and Practical Action, respectively. Sustainable Cities – Gurgaon & Puri 6 Sustainable Energy Based on the learning from the initial workshops, the project ideas/activities for Gurgaon were developed, to begin with. These included making public transport more viable and people and environment-friendly, working with Haryana Government to implement mandatory solar rooftops, and implementing sustainability initiatives in Sector-29 market. Similar project activities were implemented in the city of Puri. The case studies were developed from the findings eventually, and presented to the local stakeholders.
Citizen’s Greening Initiatives
This infographic, designed as a part of the project, ‘Preparing Cities to be Climate Resilient- Prioritizing Actions and Identifying Resources’ was prepared to bring to light the green initiatives undertaken by residents themselves, in a residential complex named Nirvana Country in Gurgaon. The residents installed solar photovoltaic panels on their rooftops and became both producers and users of “green power and thereby reducing their dependence on the electricity grid. They also met with equal success in the areas of rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment and reuse, and waste management.
Pre-feasibility Analysis for Shifting from Diesel to Electric Auto-rickshaws in Gurgaon
Sustainable transport was one of the priority areas that was identified in the previous interaction with various stakeholders of the city of Gurgaon. Consequently, the Vasudha team embarked on a pre-feasibility analysis to understand the social requirement of Gurgaon travelers and economic considerations of service providers in Gurgaon. The results of the online and offline survey are depicted in the transport infographic prepared as a part of the project, ‘Preparing Cities to be Climate Resilient- Prioritizing Actions and Identifying Resources.’
