Purpose of the Role

• Lead Vasudha Foundation’s work on inclusive and equitable energy transitions, including gender mainstreaming in the power and energy sector, ensuring decarbonisation efforts translate into socially and economically inclusive outcomes.
• Bring a versatile, ground-level understanding of the socio-political context shaping energy transition, livelihoods and community participation, and translate this into research, advocacy and programme design.
• Independently lead engagements and discussions at the grassroots level, building trust with communities, civil society partners and local institutions.
• Contribute to Vasudha’s broader Energy Transition programme, including linkages with district decarbonisation pathways, data access, RE & EV work where it intersects with equity and community-level energy access.

Responsibilities

1. Concept Development

• Develop project concepts and proposals on inclusive energy transition, gender mainstreaming and community-centred approaches to decarbonisation.
• Design research and field methodologies, including surveys, focus group discussions, roundtables and participatory approaches to capture the socio-economic and gender dimensions of the energy transition.
• Contribute to knowledge products such as primers, practitioner handbooks, case studies and policy briefs that embed gender and equity as a structural frame rather than an add-on.

2. Project Implementation

• Lead field-based research and community engagements across project geographies, independently facilitating discussions with grassroots stakeholders, including women’s groups, informal workers and local enterprises.
• Coordinate with technical teams to integrate socio-economic and gender considerations into decarbonisation plans and industrial transition work.
• Draft reports, briefs and dissemination materials translating field insights into actionable recommendations for policymakers and partners.
• Undertake travel to project locations, including remote and semi-urban areas, as required.

3. Networking, Meetings and Conferences

• Represent Vasudha in policy dialogues, civil society forums and conferences on gender, livelihoods and inclusive energy transitions.
• Build partnerships with civil society organisations, grassroots institutions, academic partners and relevant government departments working on inclusive and equitable energy transitions
• Support donor engagement and reporting for gender and inclusion-focused workstreams.

Qualifications and Skills

• Master’s degree in Development Studies/ Energy & Economics/Public Policy or a related field.
• Strong understanding of the socio-political context of India’s energy transition, with the ability to connect grassroots realities to policy-level conversations.
• Working knowledge of the energy transition landscape (Renewable Energy, Industrial decarbonisation or power sector reforms)
• Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to independently lead discussions with community members, grassroots institutions and diverse stakeholders.
• Strong writing and research skills, with experience translating field-level insights into structured research outputs.

Experience

• 5–6 years of relevant experience in the energy, development or social sector.
• Any prior experience conducting independent fieldwork and stakeholder engagement at the grassroots level would be preferred.
