
On 9 July 2026, Vasudha Foundation, with the Tamil Nadu Green Climate Company (TNGCC), the Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA), the Perundurai SIPCOT Textile Processors’ Association (PSTPA), and the Apparel Impact Institute (Aii), organised a workshop on “Future-Proofing Textile Manufacturing: Electrification, Circularity and Resource-Efficient Production” in Coimbatore.
The workshop brought together more than 80 stakeholders from across the textile value chain, including textile processing MSMEs, garment manufacturers, technology providers, financial institutions, government agencies, industry associations, research organisations, brands, and implementation partners. It was designed as a collaborative platform to examine practical pathways for decarbonising industrial heat while strengthening the competitiveness and resource efficiency of India’s textile manufacturing sector.
The programme combined high-level policy discussions with practical implementation experiences through plenary discussions, technology spotlight sessions, panel deliberations, and demonstrations of emerging digital tools. Participants explored commercially available solutions for industrial heat electrification, including industrial heat pumps, thermal energy storage, waste heat recovery, and Mechanical Vapour Recompression (MVR), alongside case studies showcasing early deployments in textile manufacturing. Discussions also examined financing mechanisms, business models such as Heat-as-a-Service, cluster-based implementation approaches, circular manufacturing practices, fibre recycling, digital traceability, and evolving international sustainability requirements.
Together, the deliberations highlighted that while the technologies required for industrial decarbonisation are increasingly available, accelerating adoption will depend on stronger collaboration between industry, technology providers, financiers, policymakers, and knowledge institutions, supported by demonstration projects, innovative financing, and facility-specific engineering approaches.
