Position Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and skilled professional to join our team as Senior Policy Officer – Climate Modelling. This position plays a critical role in conducting research, developing climate models, and performing risk and vulnerability assessments to understand potential future impacts of climate change for informed decision-making. The role supports interdisciplinary efforts to advance climate adaptation and mitigation strategies, the energy transition, and resilience planning at both sub-national and national levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research, data analysis and develop climate models to evaluate historical climate patterns, assess vulnerabilities, and forecast future scenarios using appropriate tools and software
  • Document methodologies, analytical processes, findings, and actionable insights
  • Prepare high-quality written outputs including policy briefs, technical reports, blogs, and peer-reviewed journal articles
  • Collaborate with stakeholders for data collection, present analytical findings, and provide technical input in meetings and consultations
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the manager or senior leadership

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Postgraduate degree in Energy, Environmental Engineering, Climate Science, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related quantitative field
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in climate modelling, including:
    • Understanding of climate processes and analysis of large climate datasets
    • Model development and scenario analysis
    • Run simulations, data processing, interpretation, and model validation
  • Familiarity with areas such as climate change adaptation and mitigation, climate resilient infrastructure, disaster risk management, predictive analysis and vulnerability assessments is preferable
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis, data modelling, and programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB
  • Experience with AI and machine learning techniques is an advantage
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment
