Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled professional to join our team as Senior Policy Officer – Climate Modelling. This position plays a critical role in conducting climate model analysis and climate risk assessments to understand potential future impacts of climate change for informed decision-making at sub-national and national levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research, climate data collection, data interpretation and analysis to evaluate historical climate patterns, and forecast future scenarios using appropriate tools and software
- Assess physical climate hazards/vulnerabilities such as heat stress, floods, droughts, landslides, cyclones etc. using climate models, remote sensing, and geospatial analysis to map multi-hazard risks and emission trajectories
- Document methodologies, analytical processes, findings, and actionable insights with high technical rigor and clarity
- Prepare high-quality written outputs including policy briefs, technical reports, blogs, and peer-reviewed journal articles
- Actively participate in team meetings and stakeholder discussions to present findings of the analysis
- Undertake other tasks or assignments as assigned by the manager/senior management.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Postgraduate degree in Engineering, Energy, Climate Science, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related quantitative field
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in climate modelling, including:
- Analysis of large climate model datasets and observation datasets
- Model development and scenario analysis
- Run simulations, data processing, interpretation, and model validation
- Experience in climate models (such as GCM and R-GCM), climate projections, predictive analysis and risk assessment methodologies
- Proficiency in programming languages, data visualisation tools such as Python, ArcGIS or MATLAB
- Experience with AI and machine learning techniques is an advantage
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with fluency in English
- Strong ability to work in a collaborative team environment
