Vasudha Foundation organised a panel discussion on “Enhancing Mitigation Ambition in Developing Countries”, at the Civil Society Policy Forum at the World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, 11th October 2017.
The interactive discussion moderated by Mr Srinivas Krishnaswamy, Chief Executive Officer, Vasudha Foundation, aimed to understand the mitigation targets and ambitions in India, Africa and other developing countries.
Ms Samiksha Dhingra, Manager – Programmes opened the discussion with a short presentation on India’s and Africa’s emission profile for all sectors in 2005 and 2013 along with the possible mitigation pathways for all sectors. Following, Mr Alex Doukas, Oil Change International, presented interesting insights on the financing structure of international financial institutions to high energy-intensive sectors. The discussion was further taken forward by Ms Jessica McDonald on the key actions that can be taken to fast-track and scale-up renewable energy solutions keeping in mind the emissions profile of developing countries.
Lastly, Mr James Close, Director – Climate Change, World Bank, concluded the session by providing the Bank’s perspective and actions taken by the Bank for mitigating climate change
