About the Role
We’re looking for a media-savvy storyteller who can translate the fast-evolving world of clean energy and climate policy into compelling, people-first narratives. You’ll lead Vasudha Foundation’s media relations, building relationships with journalists, shaping how the energy transition story is told in India, and ensuring that our insights reach the right audiences with clarity and impact. What You’ll Do
Media Relations and Outreach
- Develop Vasudha Foundation’s media engagement strategy and drive its implementation.
- Cultivate strong relationships with journalists, editors, and producers across national, regional, and digital platforms.
- Identify story opportunities and proactively pitch research insights, expert commentary, and opinion pieces.
- Draft, review, and edit press releases, media advisories, and statements.
- Coordinate interviews, briefings, and media interactions for senior leadership and researchers.
- Maintain a media calendar aligned with key policy moments (Budget, COP, G20, etc.) and Vasudha’s publication schedule.
- Track media coverage, analyse tone and reach, and feed insights into overall communication strategy.
Editorial Leadership and Storytelling
- Collaborate with programme teams to translate research into clear, engaging, and accessible stories for diverse audiences.
- Edit reports, briefs, op-eds, and blogs for accuracy, clarity, and impact.
- Develop human-interest stories, data explainers, and features that connect climate and energy issues to real-world experiences.
- Work with design and digital teams to create multimedia storytelling formats such as short videos, photo essays, and interactive explainers.
- Identify story angles from ongoing projects and partnerships to build integrated storytelling campaigns.
- Plan and manage an editorial calendar around key national and international energy and climate moments.
- Experiment with new formats and creative approaches to make energy narratives more relatable and accessible to broader audiences.
- Ensure all content reflects Vasudha’s tone, brand voice, and strategic priorities.
Capacity Building and Collaboration
- Support Vasudha teams in communicating their work more effectively through training, writing support, and editorial guidance.
- Mentor staff on media writing, editing, and storytelling best practices.
- Collaborate with partner organisations and coalitions to align messaging and strengthen collective outreach.
Strategic Inputs and Thought Leadership
- Provide media and messaging inputs for policy dialogues, reports, and campaigns.
- Support the development of speeches, articles, and talking points for leadership.
- Maintain institutional media databases, documentation, and knowledge systems for long-term engagement.
- Stay updated with current market standards and industry benchmarks to strengthen Vasudha’s media positioning and identify new opportunities for thought leadership and outreach.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the communication team on content-related and coordination activities as and when required.
- Keeping regular updates on recent developments in the sector and assisting in developing a newsletter for internal and external dissemination
Requirements
Work Experience
- A journalist or communicator with 6–7 years of experience, ideally covering energy, climate, or sustainability.
- A strong team player who enjoys collaborating, learning from others, and contributing to a shared vision.
- Excellent at writing, editing, and storytelling, with a natural instinct for what makes a story relevant and newsworthy.
- Able to translate complex policy or technical insights into clear, engaging, and accurate narratives for diverse audiences.
- Comfortable working across formats — print, digital, video, and social — and across content types, including articles, explainers, briefs, and research summaries.
- Curious, agile, and creative, bringing both newsroom discipline and an experimental mindset to your work.
- Familiar with media networks and experienced in engaging with journalists, editors, and influencers.
- Knowledge of communications best practices is essential; a passion for sustainability and climate issues is a plus.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines with composure and care.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience managing organisational websites is an advantage.
Educational Qualification: An advanced University Degree (Masters) in Communications, Media, Natural Resource Management, Environment Studies, Law or other related fields.
Additional Criteria: Experience and knowledge of Climate, Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development Sector is an advantage.
