This report examines India’s transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles as a critical opportunity to advance gender inclusivity across the mobility and automobile sector. Despite improvements in female labour force participation, women remain significantly underrepresented across the EV value chain due to persistent social, safety, infrastructural, economic, and institutional barriers. Drawing on extensive quantitative surveys and qualitative case studies spanning EV manufacturing, gig-economy driving, ownership, charging infrastructure, skilling, and allied services, the report analyses both enabling factors created by technological shifts and the systemic gaps that continue to limit women’s participation. It outlines strategic pathways across community engagement, institutional practices, policy frameworks, skilling ecosystems, financial access, and targeted awareness to support gender mainstreaming. By positioning the EV transition as a structural reset, the report highlights how India can align sustainable mobility goals with equitable workforce participation and inclusive growth.
