In 2025, Vasudha Foundation conducted a series of large-scale capacity-building programmes for small-to-medium fleet (SMF) operators across Mumbai, Lucknow, Agra, and Meerut, training over 1,000+ fleet operators through focused, on-ground workshops. These sessions were organised under the Centre for Zero Emission Truck Transition Support (CZETTS) – a national platform hosted by All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) with Vasudha Foundation serving as the secretariat. SMF operators form the backbone of India’s trucking sector, yet they often face the greatest constraints in assessing and adopting new technologies. The training series aimed to bridge this gap by offering practical, accessible knowledge to help operators navigate the shift toward cleaner and more efficient freight solutions.
Across the four cities, the sessions covered key aspects of the evolving freight ecosystem, including:
- The shifting nature of India’s trucking landscape – current barriers, challenges, and emerging opportunities
- Benefits of Zero Emission Trucks (ZETs) for small transporters, including operational savings and reliability
- Socio-economic improvements for truck-driving partners under a just and inclusive transition
- The Model Roadmap developed for SMF operators and practical use cases based on fleet size, routes, and budgets
- The growing importance of digitalisation – from telematics to data-led fleet optimisation
Participants engaged actively, reflecting strong interest from the industry. Many operators shared that structured guidance on costs, technology requirements, charging infrastructure, and financing options is essential for enabling an informed transition.
These training programmes mark an important step in building technical readiness and confidence among SMF operators. Through CZETTS, Vasudha Foundation will continue to support transporters with advisory services, customised transition pathways, and access to incentives and knowledge tools.

The sessions conducted across the four cities were tailored to the operational realities and needs of local fleet operators. These on-ground engagements brought together transporters, associations, and drivers to build practical readiness for zero-emission truck adoption.
