Gujarat Climate Action Tracker

Vasudha Foundation has worked on developing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory, climate variability and future climate projections (till the end of century) and detailed district profiles with a climate lens covering all districts of Gujarat. This first-of-its-kind initiative to strengthen a bottom-up approach to climate and energy transition planning was carried out in collaboration with the Department of Climate Change, Government of Gujarat (GoG) and Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA).

To make this data easily accessible to all stakeholders, the Gujarat Climate Action Tracker (GCAT) an open-access one-stop portal for all climate and energy-related data insights was developed. This portal was launched on the occasion of World Environment Day (June 5th, 2025), by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendra Patel, in the presence of Shri Mulubhai Bera, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Forest and Environment, Climate Change, GoG and Shri Mukesh Patel, Hon’ble Minister of State, Forest and Environment, Climate Change, GoG and other senior bureaucrats from various departments in Gujarat.

With the launch of this portal, Gujarat becomes the first state in India to have GHG inventories for all districts. The launch of this portal can potentially boost clean energy investments for Gujarat, foster green jobs and climate-smart development of the state. It can serve as a policymaker’s decision-making tool and an investor’s handbook on climate-smart opportunities.

The GCAT is only a first step towards achieving the state’s 2047 Net Zero target. In subsequent phases, the data housed on this portal can be used to develop detailed district-level decarbonisation plans and data-backed actionable climate solutions, measure GHG emissions reductions, and track project implementation status. This will ultimately contribute to India’s Net-Zero and climate goals.
This initiative was recognised by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat on social media, along with articles published by major media outlets.
