Vasudha Foundation participated in the National Conference on the Power Sector organised by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) at Bharat Mandapam on Monday, 23rd Feb 2026. The conference brought together senior leaders from the Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), Central Electricity Authority (Cea), and energy secretaries from state governments, and senior functionaries of various energy sector entities to discuss the future of India’s power sector in the context of #ViksitBharat2047 and #NetZeroby2070.
Our CEO, Srinivas Krishnaswamy, had the honour and privilege to moderate the session on power distribution. The esteemed panelists in the session included the Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department, Government of Odisha; the Principal Secretary, Energy, Government of Punjab; Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation ( Uppcl ); the Managing Director of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB); Chairman and Managing Director of REC Limited; and Director, Ministry of Power, Government of India.
The session brought out very interesting insights on the current landscape of Electricity Distribution Utilities across the states of Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Punjab, and also on the various initiatives taken by them to strengthen the electricity distribution sector. The panelists also discussed key issues pertaining to the future readiness of Discoms, particularly shaped by clean energy, rising demand, and climate risk.
The discussion also highlighted several important reform suggestions. It underscored that the financial and operational efficiency of Discoms is critical to determine how reliably and affordably India’s energy transition unfolds.
This engagement reflects our continued focus on strengthening power sector governance through evidence-based analysis and system-level thinking.
